The New Jersey team, to be owned by businesswoman, investor and healthcare executive Dawn Sherman will enter the WNFC in 2025.
The Women’s National Football Conference (WNFC) has confirmed that its 17th franchise has been awarded to the state of New Jersey, and will be owned by businesswoman Dawn Sherman.
WNFC Chairwoman Odessa Jenkins commented on New Jersey gaining a WNFC franchise, stating that it “represents an important milestone for us as a league as we continue to expand professional women's flag and tackle football across the United States.
She added of the reasoning behind selecting New Jersey and Dawn Sherman as its owner:
"Dawn is a leader who has always created opportunities for other women. I am proud to have her join us in our journey to permanently change the financial landscape for women in football. With her distinguished record of leading successful companies and her reputation for driving innovation, coupled with New Jersey's dynamic and diverse appeal and its growing appetite for professional women's sports, we are confident that this new team will thrive as a top-tier WNFC organization."
Sherman is the Chief Executive Officer of Labconnect, a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing company.
The new WNFC expansion franchise, is making a push to enter the league for its 2025 season and is expected to play its home games in Essex/Bergen County areas.
