The New WNFC Atlanta Franchise Has Revealed Its Name

ATLANTA – The Women's National Football Conference (WNFC) is proud to announce the official launch of its newest franchise: the Atlanta Truth. Set to begin play in April 2025, the Atlanta Truth brings a powerful new presence to the league, honoring the city’s rich history of social change and its deep connection to the civil rights movement.

The team’s name, Atlanta Truth, was chosen to reflect Atlanta’s role as a leader in the fight for justice and equality, where truth has always been a cornerstone. The team is owned by investor Cameron Rhode, a passionate women’s sports enthusiast who spent his childhood in Alpharetta GA, just outside the vibrant city of Atlanta.

The team’s mascot, an owl, serves as a constant reminder of the team’s commitment to truth in gameplay and impact on the community. The owl’s watchful eyes and silent wings symbolize the team’s dedication to being vigilant, strategic, and wise in its pursuit of victory, while staying grounded in the core values that have made Atlanta a beacon of progress.

“The Truth will be more than just a team; we will be a force for good in our community, representing everything that Atlanta stands for,” said Evin Felder, general manager of the Atlanta Truth. “We’re excited to bring this new chapter of women’s football to the city and continue Atlanta’s legacy of leading the way in sports and social justice.”

The Atlanta Truth will take the field in 2025, marking the first time a new franchise has replaced a previous team in the same market. The team’s arrival comes at a pivotal moment for women’s sports, with interest at an all-time high. This summer alone, WNFC streaming viewership reached nearly 2 million, signaling a growing appetite for women’s football at both the collegiate and professional levels.

The team will be led on the field by newly announced Head Coach Kameron Marks. Coach Marks was born in Michigan and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago, where football has always been a part of her life. In 2007, she started her football journey with the Chicago Force and never looked back. She played defensive line and linebacker for 11 seasons (including a stint in the WNFC with the Washington Prodigy). Coach Marks also dominated at the international level as an inaugural member of the U.S. Women’s Tackle Football National Team. She went on to win gold medals with the team in Sweden (2010), Finland (2013), and Canada (2017), earning Defensive MVP honors at the 2017 IFAF Women’s World Championship.

The past year has been electric for women’s sports, with trailblazers like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese redefining the landscape of women’s basketball, and the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team drawing record crowds, including in Atlanta. Youth participation in girls’ sports is at its highest level since 2013, and historic milestones, such as record-breaking viewership for the NCAA Women’s Final Four, highlight the growing influence of women’s sports.

The Atlanta Truth is set to further this momentum, driving equity and opportunity in a city that’s known for keeping it real. With women’s sports projected to generate over $1 billion in revenue for the first time in history this year, the timing couldn’t be better for the Atlanta Truth to make its debut.

The Atlanta Truth is ready to take its place in the 'A' , a city that has always been at the forefront of cultural innovation, entertainment, and sports. Stay tuned as the Truth makes its mark on the field and in the community, keeping Atlanta’s professional women’s football legacy alive and thriving.
